(How) Is it possible to successfully connect my SPV M3100 to my Audi Bluetooth car kit via Sim Access Profile? I've got a 2008 Audi A6 and the latest Orange ROM. The Forum Threads that I have found date from around 2006 and despite following various threads from -JD-, Pof and helmi_c, plus a little procedure adjustment for the latest software versions, the helmi_c btsap test cab doesn't install, leaving me back where i started with a connection but no signal or function.
No, only the TyTN headphones will fit this port.
You have to stick to it or use a Bluetooth headset unless you modify the headphones or wait for someone to make an accessory for it.
If you want to modify the headset, see these pages:
Is it possible to use headphones to listen to music while keeping the device's battery charged?
No, there is only one mini-USB port and HTC doesn't make a cradle expansion for the TyTN so you can either charge/sync the device or use the original headphones.
Expansys also sell a Y-splitter for the mini-USB port Expansys UK. This will allow you to charge and use headphones at the same time, although if your headset has a right-angle connector you'll probably need the 11pin-to-3.5mm (http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=138247) socket adaptor too (allowing you to use any headphones), because the right-angled headphone connector covers up the power socket on Expansys' splitter.
The Cingular 8525 comes with a Y-splitter.
All these adapters are available on eBay fairly cheap - just search for "?JasJam Adapter".
Is it possible to overclock the 400MHz Samsung processor?
Yes. The latest version of ?PocketHackMaster supports the Hermes processor. You probably won't achieve speeds more than 440 MHz so you have to decide if this is worth the potential damage to your hardware. You can also underclock, which may help to extend battery performance.
Is it possible to dim the backlight?
During operation you can go to to Settings -> Backlight, but there's no hw key asociated to it.
Suggestion is to use 3rd party software, see forum thread
What's the maximum size of micro-SD card supported? Is there a list of known working/not working ones?
Any microSD card 2GB or smaller uses FAT16. Larger than 2GB becomes a microSDHC card (HC = high capacity), which uses FAT32. Your software needs to support SDHC cards in order to use one. Newer ROM upgrades from xda-dev do support SDHC, enabling the use of >2GB cards (4gb up to 32GB, as noted in the SDHC specifications).
As of Jan 2008, Sandisk has a newly released 12GB card. There are rumors of a 16GB card to come spring 2008. 8GB microSDHC cards are very common and also becoming very affordable. 32GB cards are way off in the future, but should be compatible with any phone that can use the 4gb or bigger cards. Therefore, your the maximum size of microSD card supported should be 32GB with updated software, or 2GB without SDHC support. <a href="http://www.sandisk.com/Assets/File/pdf/retail/SDHC1.pdf">Some additional information</a>
Is it possible to remove the bottom tray on today screen?
Yes! The bar itself disappears when all of the items in it are gone.
There are a few hacks you can use to remove them click here.
What are the differences between HERM100 and HERM200 devices?
They dictate the base form factor before operator customisations go on (silk screen, plastics etc.).
For example the Vodafone branded Hermes is an HERM200 and the Dopod 838 is an HERM100 as it uses the other main button layout.
There are not any noteworthy differences in the hardware and the ROM's will be interchangeable.
The port is NOT proprietary. It is a standard mini-USB, and takes standard mini-USB cables.
They tweaked the socket a little bit to go along with their new proprietary headset.
In other words, you can plug in any standard mini-usb cable/accessory, but you can't plug the headset into any standard mini-usb port.
The connector is a little bit wider on one side so that one can plug-in the proprietory head-set connector. Any mini-USB connector should fit in, but the head-set will not fit into a standard mini-USB plug...
BT A2DP broadcasts in mono mode, can I change it to stereo?
Yes! Check this registry hack to change to stereo and improve sound quality. For example, fit4cat can do it.
Is it possible to stop the battery from charging when connected to a computer through USB?
If you use it as 3G modem on your laptop the usb loading sucks down the laptop battery very fast.
Unfortunately there is currently no known solution. Some think that cutting the VBUS line of the USB cable will help, but it stops communication completely. forum thread
Yes, but it seems the only models working are the ones which include the STK (SIM Tool Kit Menu) to switch SIMs, you can get them at eBay for about $1 plus shipping. More info in this forum thread.
When connected to WIFI network, TyTN tries to launch a 3G/GPRS connection instead of using WIFI.
Check under Settings - Connections - Connections, if your GPRS settings are set under "My ISP" or "My Work Network". If you don't need to use proxy servers I recommend you to put them under "My ISP", so you don't have troubles. Then go to "Advanced" and make sure that you have this settings:
Programs that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using: My ISP.
Programs that automatically connect to a private network should connect using: My Work Network.
Then go to Settings - Connections - Network Cards. Select your WIFI card, and make sure that you have this setting:
My Network card connects to: The Internet
BUT if you have your GPRS setting under "MY work network" then, here put "Work", it just has to be the same as in GPRS settings, so wifi is prefered over GPRS.
You'll have to "disable" wifi and "enable" it again every time you do changes in the Network Card settings.
Then it should default to wifi if its connected. If you have directpush, disable it while connected to wifi and make sure that all existing browsers, mail apps, any web enabled apps (like messenger) are all properly shut (settings, system, memory, running programs) otherwise they may prompt the device to use the gprs/3g connection you were using with them.
If you are still having problems after doing the above, "disable" wifi, switch on "Flight Mode", switch off "Flight Mode", then switch wifi back on.
Is it posible to remove the SIMLock of Hermes devices?
Is it possible to know if connected to GPRS/EDGE or UMTS/HSDPA?
The Hermes status icon will show you the network that you are connected to: [U] for UMTS and HSDPA and [G] for GPRS and EDGE, but it is not possible to know if you are connected to UMTS or HSDPA, and the same beetween GPRS and EDGE.
The "?EnableDifferEdgeIcon" reg tweak working for the previous models to show the [E] instead of [G] when you are on the EDGE network is not working on the Hermes. Another reg treak described in the later part of FAQ should be used instead.
You can however know if HSDPA is enabled on your device or not, check the contents of \windows\PreConfig.txt and you'll see SetHSDPA.exe "/Enable" or "/Disable". If it is disabled, check this page for instructions on enabling it.
There is word on the street that future updates will change the label of UMTS to 3G.
For AT&T users, there is a registry hack which will display an "H" icon when a connection is established with HSDPA
Get your phone to display an H when HSDPA is being used
HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\RIL and set ?EnableHSDPAIcon to 1
Note - you may require a newer radio ROM version for the OS to know whether the radio is in HSDPA mode or not. Older radio ROMs may show the '3G' icon even though the radio is working in HSDPA mode (example: original Softbank 1.09 or 1.14 radio ROMs)
Operator codes like *123# are not working, how can I fix it?
Is it possible to install TomTom? Can I install it on storage card?
Yes, just make sure it is TomTom Navigator 5.21 (or later).
You need to pair your bluetooth GPS device first, go to settings -> connections -> bluetooth and add new device, let it search and it will find a new device when you have paired it select new comm port outgoing.
You can install it on the Storage Card, it just needs that currentmap.dat is in "My Documents".
1) first run the program "Wireless Modem" on your TyTN and select Bluetooth from the drop down. Then go to "Menu" and select "Start".
2) Now go to Bluetooth Setup Assistant on your Mac and pair the TyTN with your computer. Make sure to select your device for use to connect to the internet. You will now be asked to fill in settings. For the modem script, download the following script: http://www.box.net/public/zxjp6ummyz and place it in your Macintosh HD/Library/Modem Scripts folder. Now select HTC TyTN from the drop down list and fill in the rest of the details depending on your carrier.
3)Now you are ready to connect. Run "Internet Connect", select Bluetooth, and click "Connect". Everything should be working. The next time you want to connect, just run make sure to run the "Wireless Modem" application on the TyTN before connecting to your Mac.
Note: It has been reported that you might not need to run the "Wireless Modem" application for this to work. This might vary per device, but if all else fails, delete pairings from both device and computer, soft reset device, and try the above settings again.
Update: If using AKU3* and Internet Sharing, a solution to tethering on the mac via usb has been posted here
Update: If using AKU3* and Internet Sharing, a solution to tethering on the mac via bluetooth PAN has been posted here. Note: You may need to edit some registry settings depending on your ROM version, so read the entire thread.
How can you change from portrait to landscape without sliding out the keyboard?
Start -> Settings -> System -> Screen and change the Orientation
Is there a way to easily adjust the volume using the wheel? Or do we have to get the stylus out?
If you move the jogwheel during a call, you can change the volume of the speaker, but when on today screen the wheel's function is to move up and down the today screen plugins.
Is there a keyboard number lock?
You just have to double press the blue (red on the Vario II) circle to turn Num Lock on and once again to turn it off.
Are the GPRS settings the same for 3G?
Yes.
Why does the keyboard backlight turns itself on and off?
There's a small hole in the top right of the keyboard, this is a light sensor. So, if light is on your keyboard backligth turns itself off, and when it's dark your keyboard backlight will be on when you press a key. Note, you can disable the sensor via - start, settings, buttons, backlight, and disable the auto-sensor. Disabling the auto-sensor will keep the keyboard backlight lit at all times.
Is it possible to remap some Hardware Buttons? (ie. to close applications, etc...)
With AE Button Plus 2.4.3 beta and upwards, you can capture and map the "ok" and "windows" buttons. You can also try PQzII which let's you map any button on the Hermes to anything you want, it has an option to make the "ok" button a 'really close button' and much more.
See these forum threads: thread 1 & thread 2
Cingular 8525 users can remap the PTT button (currently useless) with both push and hold functionality. See this thread: Cingular 8252 PTT Thread
There is a long delay while PIE display's a message 'Locating' - this last's about 30 seconds before the web page is displayed.
Put a hardcoded DNS server in network configuration instead of getting it by dhcp.
Can I make the On-Screen Keyboard larger for single hand use when dialing a contact?
Yes. Click the on screen keyboard, and then the Up arrow next to it. Select Options, and choose "Large Keys". Click OK. The Keyboard should be much larger and easier to touch with your fingers.
Can I use the Hermes as a USB modem in Vista? The XP driver complains that a file is missing.
Yes. Edit the USBMDM.inf file and add the 'include=mdmcpq.ini' line into these 3 secions [Modem1.NT], [Modem1.NT.Services] and [Modem1.NT.HW]
This is what it should look like once you are done.
Once the driver is loaded you can use it for a dialup networking account.
1) Connect the cable.
2) Launch the 'Wireless Modem' application on the WM5 and pick USB.
3) From the menu select Start.
4) Switch back to the PC and connect the Dialup Networking Connection.
If you haven't already... Create a new Connection using the "HTC USB Modem" device and then setup the account with the username and password of your GSM provider, for example in the US Cingular network:
How do I keep Cyberon Voice dialer tags between rom upgrades?
Before upgrading you have to save the file named CommandModel1.bin from your \Windows directory to the Storage Card.
After restoring your contacts from ActiveSync and restoring the file I mentioned before all your voice tags will bring back.
Moreover you have the ability to keep this file on the Storage Card and change a path to it in registry (\HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Speech\ModelFilePath)
In this case you can delete a file CommandModel1.bin from \Windows directory and save 500KB of expensive memory.
Windows Media Player 11 Can not see my storage card under vista.
I've edited some things in the registry, however, after softreset, all changes have been lost.
A: After you have edited the registry, turn off your device, wait 10-15 seconds, then (while it is still off), press the soft reset button. In this way, your changes will be saved.
If my phone is plugged into the wall or my car charger it will not charge. It will only charge when plugged into a computer. I've verified that the wall charger and car charger work by plugging them into my bluetooth gps receiver and it charges just fine with either of them, but my phone doesn't even register that it's been plugged in. I've checked all the power settings and even my active sync settings but I can't find anything
